Moose has officially stepped into toddlerhood. With this comes many new and exciting challenges and experiences. Toddler life is a whole lot of fun! Moose is starting to understand what we are saying and trying his hardest to communicate with us. When he started eating solid food, I also started teaching him basic baby sign language. I was consistent with a few signs but after a few months I slowly stopped as he didnโt seem to be picking it up. I would use the signs for water, milk, more and a few others, occasionally, when I remembered. Even though I didnโt think he was picking it up, he obviously was because he DEFINETLY knows the sign for โmoreโ and โall doneโ. As a first-time mom, the smallest things mean so much so when he started signing โmoreโ and โall doneโ, this made me so proud. This is just one of the many new things Moose has started doing as a toddler. Keep reading to find out what our toddler must haves are!
A Toddlers favorite toys
He has started taking an interest in specific toys. His favorites (toddler must haves) a few weeks ago were his nugget comfort, cars, and squigz. He also really enjoyed his safari animals. I learned pretty early on not to have ALL of his toys out at once. I also showed him from an early age how to put toys away. This is one of the new talents he has started to show. He loves to dump out his toy bucket, just to put everything back in it again. We are still working on where it goes but it is clear he is learning!
Mommy's realizations and Current favorites
We recently moved and I decided to only keep out 5-10 types of toys, to always include his kitchen, books, and nuggets. This week we have his Legos for building with the wagon they are contained in, some cars, a couple different types of balls, a cabbage patch doll, and drum set. Moose is really enjoying and learning how to play properly with each of these toys. We spend time โcookingโ every morning after we eat breakfast. He loves to bring me books to read, and we even made him a reading corner in his bedroom. We read there to calm down before nap. Melvin has fun building different forts and obstacles with our nugget for Moose and just lounging on them. Moose also learned how to feed the cabbage patch doll his attached bottle all by himself.
How to keep toys fun and engaging?!?!
We will continue to rotate his toys every week because it keeps things fun and โnewโ. His books we will rotate more often because we spend a lot of time reading to Moose and letting him look through his books each day. I want to be sure that his environment is fun, exciting and promotes learning on a daily basis. (click each favorite below to see what we have)
Some other toddler must haves are:
– balance bike
– stacking toys (of different varieties)
– puzzles
– stuffed animals (current favorites here and here)
– blocks
– hammer and pound a peg

Because we are a military family and move a lot, I am trying to keep things more minimal. I donโt want a lot of toys โjust becauseโ, so I create amazon lists of things I think he will be interested in and provide friends and family with the code around birthday and Christmas time. This also helps because when people ask what to get Moose, I can just give them the link! Easy Peasy!
