Breastfeeding is a Journey

When I was breastfeeding Moose I would have dips in my milk supply due to my period returning around 6 weeks post-partum. I am convinced that these protein balls are what kept me producing enough milk. I do not have any proof that these lactation recipes worked and it may have been a placebo ๐Ÿ˜‚ but they made me feel better. Below I have 2 different protein ball recipes. I make them both for a variety of taste and texture. You do not have to bake either which is also a plus.

Protein Balls

This lactation recipe has more of a grainy, oat texture to it.

No Bake Protein balls (this recipe was shared with me/ source unknown)

  • Two cups of rolled oats
  • One cup of peanut butter
  • ยฝ cup of honey (I often add more)
  • One teaspoon vanilla
  • ยฝ cup of flax seed
  • Three tablespoons of brewerโ€™s yeast (I donโ€™t always have this, and it can be left out)
  • Hand full of chocolate chips
  • Mix all ingredients (besides chocolate chips) in a mixer, once mixed well add chocolate chips and mix a little more.
  • I also like to add chia seeds into mine
  • You may need to add more peanut butter or honey to make the balls stick together better
  • Roll into bite size balls
  • You can then put them in the fridge to snack on for the next few days Or freeze them like I do and take them out as needed!

Protein shakes

If you follow me on Instagram that you might already know, I’ve had to cut dairy out of my diet. Luckily for me all of these lactation recipes are free of dairy. I make big batches of the protein balls and keep them in the freezer. Every few days I will take about 10 out and keep them in my mini fridge to snack on during middle of the night feedings. If you are breastfeeding you know that you get very hungry in the middle of the night. I have this mini fridge on my bedside table for snacks, water and my milk that I collect in my Haakaa at night.ย

Almost every morning I make myself this protein shake because it is easy and gives me energy to start my day! If you are looking for some easy freezer dinner meals, check out this blog post!
