How I Stay Healthy as a Mom
How I Stay Healthy as a Mom
Since having my son, Moose, almost 2 years ago I have gone back and forth with working out. Once I was able to start working out again Covid hit and put a damper on me going to the gym. I did discover a lot of home workouts because of this and will share them below! These are my 5 tips to stay healthy as a mom.

Top 5 Tips to Stay Healthy as a Mom
/1/ I go for walks almost every day! Since Moose was born this is the only one I have stuck with! I would say most weeks I go for a walk at least 4 times, but usually, it is more! When Moose was still an infant, his first nap of the day would occur on our daily walks. He loved being outside and looking around, then after about 5-10 minutes, he would fall asleep! As he’s gotten older, he seldom falls asleep on walks.
Now he enjoys looking around and pointing out everything he sees. I love that about this age! The harder part is that he wants to get out of his stroller and walk too, and he is currently in the “I must pick up every rock, stick, and leaf I see” phase! Meaning our walks are a LOT longer, time-wise! It is great that he is exploring and learning, but not great for wanting to get in a quick walk. 😂
/2/ We have reusable water bottles that I refill multiple times a day! I think it is a given that everyone knows how important water is! We love hydro flasks and have multiple! I’m a big coffee drinker so having my water bottles around the house helps encourage me to drink more water instead of coffee! I don’t drink any other beverages (besides an occasional glass of wine) and I actually LOVE water!
/3/ I set a goal to work out 4 times a week. I wrote the goal down, I told my husband, I told my friends and family. This helps me stay motivated, get encouragement and support. Some workouts I have enjoyed since becoming a mom are:
Apple Fitness
My husband has joined me on a lot of these workouts and that makes it so much more fun! At the beginning of the year, we did one of Chloe Ting’s challenges to get us motivated. Once we finished the challenge we switched it up between her videos and Madfit. If I am working out by myself, I will often do Madfits Dance videos, I may not be a great dancer but I love dancing.
That is another key aspect, finding a workout you love so you stick to it!
We have recently discovered Apple Fitness since my husband switched to Apple Products. Honestly, we are impressed! I love all the different options, from selecting different time intervals to the different types of exercises it offers. We stick to Hitt and Core, or if I am doing it alone, I will do the dance classes.
Moose loves to try and do the exercises with us and he gets so excited. When I say it’s time to workout he helps us bring our yoga mats into the living room, and when we are done he helps roll them up! He has become part of our workout routine which I think is important!
/4/ We cook and eat at home most days. My husband and I will cook at home throughout the week and occasionally eat out on the weekends! This is big when it comes to staying healthy because you know what you are putting in your food and into your body. We don’t always eat the healthiest meals but that’s ok!
Moderation! I am not the biggest fan of cooking but including Moose makes it more fun for us both. He LOVES to help in the kitchen and enjoys being a part of the process, which I feel is a great life skill to teach young! Melvin does enjoy cooking, so when he isn’t busy with class he will make a meal or 2 a week also! Melvin and I intermittent fast so we only eat for an 8-hour window most days! This is a lifestyle that I find works great for me and my body thrives off of this. Some days my window is a little longer, I just listen to my body!
/5/ Stretching. I really enjoy yoga and try to do it often. I have gotten out of the habit of morning and night yoga but I do always stretch! Even if it’s only 2 minutes I feel like it helps loosen my body in the morning and trigger my body to know it is bedtime in the evening! My favorite yoga videos to follow are from Arianna Elizabeth on youtube, you can find her channel HERE.
5 Tips Recap
So to recap my 5 tips to stay healthy as a mom… I don’t work out every day but I am consistent. On the days I don’t work out I try to go for a walk to get my body moving. I do a few minutes of stretching each day, drink plenty of water and try to have well-balanced meals!
It is important to give yourself grace on the days that you may not get any of it done! As mothers we are busy! VERY busy! And some days you just want to lay on the couch with a glass of wine, some ice cream, and a good show! And that is ok! I support that, do what works for you and helps you feel healthy. Mental health is also VERY important!
I feel that staying consistent with working out is all about doing what is best for you. If you know you won’t work out every day, don’t make that your goal. You must start somewhere, so just start with baby steps. Having a good support system and a plan in place will help you reach your goals, whatever they may be.
My personal goal is to be healthy and active, I don’t have a weight I want to maintain, I just want to feel confident that my health is the best I can make it! And to also maintain good Mental Health! One way I do this is by having a good routine, you can check out my routines here and here!
