In this post you will find out what books we enjoy reading to Moose. As a former teacher it was very important that Moose have a good library. For our baby shower I asked that friends and family give us books with messages inside as opposed to cards. I am so happy I did this because we ended up with some great books that I wouldn’t have picked myself and the messages are something that moose can look back on when he gets older!
So keep reading to find out what books we have in baby’s first library!
1.The Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carl (and any Eric Carl books really) – this was my childhood favorite! I love that it is colorful and Moose loves the different size pages.
2.Dream You’ll Be by Joseph T. Garcia—I love that this book pictures a little brown boy and a little red headed girl doing jobs that are not gender specific.
3.The Going to Bed Book by Sandra Boynton – This was the first book I had ever read by her, and we quickly purchased more. Her books are fun to read if you like rhyming books. They are short and easy and Moose loves the pictures!
4.Baby Touch and Feel Animals—This was a favorite for Moose from an early age. He enjoys touching the different animal textures and his favorite animal is a rabbit (I think) because of this book. Every time he reads this book he goes straight to the rabbit page to feel it!
5.On the Night You Were Born by Nancy Tillman – This is a sweet book; I love how it is written and it always makes me remember the day Moose was born. This is one of the books I had never seen or read before and I am so glad it was gifted to us. It makes me feel happy every time I read it!
Melvin’s Favorites
Melvin reads to Moose at bedtime most nights, so I asked him for a few of his favorites to add to baby’s first library. He also likes reading the books we have by Sandra Boynton and books by Jane Yolen. A new favorite is Little Legends Exceptional Men in Black History by Vashti Harrison, we will be purchasing more books by her in the near future!
Moose likes to pick the touch and feel books off his shelves when he is reading by himself, and also enjoys books that make noise. These books are good for his motor skills as it works on pointing to things and pressing buttons.
