Starting 2023 Strong

I am so proud of myself! I’ve started this year off strong in the reading department! I have finished five books and I DNF’d one because I have decided this is the year of not wasting my time on books I am not enjoying. So I will be sharing my book reviews and tbr below…

Last year I joined a local book club but I have only attended one meeting so far. And I recently joined an online book club hosted by a couple ladies I have been following in the bookstagram world for a while. I’m pretty excited to see what books I read this year and how these clubs make me branch out! So I have also started the two books for the book clubs and the month isn’t over yet!

Just My Type by Falon Ballard

4/5 stars

Lana Parker and Seth have a history. They were high school sweethearts with big plans and dreams for the future. However one of them derails their plans and 12 years later they are forced to not only be in the same place, but work together while competing for a job. This book was a bit long and I felt that some of the “fluff” could have been cut out. With that being said, I did enjoy this book and each of the characters realizations throughout! This book was a sweet love story with very little spice.

One of Us is Dead by Jeneva Rose

5/5 stars

I went into this book knowing nothing about it. All I knew was that it was very popular in the social media book world. I listened to One of Us is Dead and loved how it was narrated. This book had so many twists and turns that I didn’t expect and the ending was a big surprise. I enjoyed hearing about each character’s past and their lives. The author did a great job of sharing just enough about each of the ladies without making it boring. Not knowing who was dead or how they died throughout most of this book made it exciting and it kept my attention, wanting me to listen whenever I had a chance. I enjoyed this book so much that I will be on the lookout for more by this author!

Verity by Colleen Hoover

5/5 stars

Lowen didn’t know she was in for a rollercoaster of emotions when she steps into Jeremy and Verity’s house. Thinking she is there to finish a book series started by Verity who is now unable to finish it, she didn’t think her time would be spent constantly looking over her shoulder. Verity is a book that I can’t really say much about without giving away key details. But I will say this book is disturbing and captivating at the same time. Thrillers are not something I would normally read but this book was recommended to me time and time again. I listened to this one as well as read the final chapters and WOAH was I thrown! There are so many twists and turns and unexpected moments that have you fascinated and unable to put the book down!

*If you have read this one I need to know, are you team letter or manuscript?*

Outdoor Kids in an Inside World

5/5 stars

I really enjoyed listening to this book! We spend as much time outside as possible and that has always been a goal of mine. But this book inspired me to let Moose explore more and encouraged me to take a step back before I intervene with his exploring. I am so glad that I listened to this one because it also gave me a different perspective on things and urged me to start a garden with Moose. We have gone to the store  to pick out a few seeds. Some we have planted already and some we need to wait for it to warm up a little more. Overall this book is perfect if you are looking for some inspiration and guidance in why it is a positive thing to spend so much time outdoors.

The Perfect Play

4/5 stars

There isn’t much to say about The Perfect Play. This was such a cute, easy, short listen. I’m glad I snagged this one for free on audible. I like to listen to short books every once in a while because I love when I book just gets to the point! This did just that. I thought Simone and James had a cute “forbidden” love story with the perfect amount of “drama”. The Perfect Play is one I will listen to again and again!
