August Book Reviews and Recaps
Take a Chance by Miyeko May
4 stars
This was a very quick and easy read. This short book is a perfect summer read. When two high school acquaintances end up in Mexico at the same time sparks fly. Cassandra was supposed to be in Mexico enjoying a fun filled getaway with her sister. But when her sister gets sick at the last minute she goes alone, intending to just relax by the pool. Cyrus had a crush on Cassandra back in high school but didn’t act on it. While in Mexico for his brothers wedding, he cant believe his luck when his old crush shows up.
Passion on Park Avenue by Lauren Layne
3.5 stars
This was such a different story. Starting as three women meeting and connecting over the loss of the same mans death. One had been married to him and two had dated him, all at the same time but didn’t know until he passed away. Against all odds these women ended up becoming great friends, looking out for each other in the dating world. The Main character in this book, Naomi is a entrepreneur, but didn’t always have a lavish life. When she moves into the building of her childhood nemesis the last thing she expected was to connect with him on such a deep level. I thought this was an enjoyable read and will read the rest of the series.
Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez
5 stars
WOW this book is easily in my top 5 for the year! I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of reading this one. Alexis and Daniels love story was beautiful. This book started out with Alexis swerving off the road near a small town avoiding a racoon. Daniel drives by and helps tow her out of the ditch. They later meet in a bar in the small town and the rest is history. This is a small town, Daniel a B&B inn keeper and, big city, Alexis an ER doctor, romance. It is a forbidden love, as Alexis is part of a well-known family who expects her to marry another high achieving doctor. I couldn’t get enough of this book and was reading it at every chance I could. I highly recommend this book, a sweet and easy romance with a little steam and short 3rd act breakup.
The Bodyguard by Katherine Center
5 stars
I listened to this one on Audio and it was so cute. I didn’t really know what to expect with this one but I am glad I finally decided to read it. The Bodyguard is about Hannah, a petite woman, who is a bodyguard, however she has to play the role of Jack Stapletons girlfriend in order to protect him. It took me so long to pick this one up because I am not a fan of the “famous person” trope. But the trope wasn’t overpowering in the romance story. This was an easy listen and it had some fun twists and turns that I didn’t expect.
28 Summers by Elin Hilderbrand
4 stars
Some of my book club friends recommended this one and it didn’t disappoint. Although it wasn’t my favorite Elin Hilderbrand book I still really liked it! I enjoyed how at the beginning of each chapter there was a recap of what happened that year. The love story was powerful and wrong but kept you wanting more.
Check out my review on some other Elin Hilderbrand books here.
I DNF’d this book. Though it wasn’t terrible, it didn’t keep my attention enough for me to want to keep reading. I may go back to it this month as I am already 40% through it. But as of now it is on my DNF list. I really want to like books by this author but this is my second DNF by her.
September TBR
This month I have a pretty long TBR. This is because I decided for September I was going to pick shorter books all less than 250 pages. While on vacation in California I grabbed some books from a local book store, The Open Book, target and also in the airport. Some of these books are on my list for this month. I also took a trip to the library where I scanned the Young Adult and Adult sections for thin books. When I saw books that were thin, I looked at the title, cover and synopsis to see if it peeked my interest. This month I am starting a part time job and my parents are coming to visit so this may affect how many I read. But here is my long TBR list for September.
In Conclusion, Don’t Worry About It by Lauren Graham
Pieces of Why by K.L. Going
See No Color by Shannon Gibney
The Silence by Don Delillo
Don’t Worry It Gets Worse by Alida Nugent
Shopgirl by Steve Martin

Girl Overboard by Sandra Block
Its Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han
Take me with you when you go by David Levithan and Jennifer Niven
