D.E.A.R, Drop Everything And Read Day

D.E.A.R Day aka Drop Everything And Read Day is April 12! This date is selected in honor of the late, great, author Beverly Cleary’s birthday. Beverly Cleary’s books were some of my favorites growing up. I still have a vivid memory of getting my first ever hard back book, it was Ramona and Beezus. I loved her books and I would say that her writing is some that inspired me to read as a child.

But back to D.E.A.R Day. I have selected a couple of books that you might be intrigued to pick up as they are on the shorter side and can be finished in a day, if that’s your thing. Typically I don’t finish books in one day but I definitely could with these few if I really wanted to.

My D.E.A.R picks

Romance- My D.E.A.R Day pick for romance is Jasmine Guillory’s By The Book, a beauty and the beast retelling. This book is captivating and funny. The grumpy/ sunshine trope will have you begging for more. At just over 300 pages you will fly through this charming romance.

Cozy Mystery- This is a genre I just started reading. I choose this cozy mystery specifically because it was short. Arson and Americanos by Justine Maxwell is 100 pages and it is such an easy read that it probably wont take you more than two hours to read.

Historical Fiction- Number the Stars by Lois Lowry was a favorite of mine as a child. This is the book I plan to read for D.E.A.R Day. This one is about a young girl and her best friend during the time of the holocaust. At just under 140 pages this is another one you can probably finish quite fast.

Series- If you are looking for a series, The Coffee Truck Cozy Mystery is for you. This one starts with the book mentioned above Arson And Americanos and has 4 books in the series. All of the books are between 100- 200 pages, making the whole series about 450 pages.

Audio- Sun of a Beach by Mia Sosa was about 2 hours long, it was funny and light hearted. A very predictable story that will leave you wanting more!

Book Recommendations

If length isn’t something that bothers you for D.E.A.R Day I have a few to recommend. All romance of course. First would be Drunk on Love by Jasmine Guillory, you can check out my review on it here. Next is Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score, now this one is LONG but it is my favorite book so far this year! And Last, Seven Days in June by Tia Williams, it is a bit heavy with a few triggers but it is an excellent book!

How do you plan to spend D.E.A.R Day? Like I said, I plan to read Number the Stars. Moose requested a trip to the library and what a perfect day for it, so we will be doing that as well as spending a lot of time reading at home.

Will you be participating in D.E.A.R Day? What are you reading? Tell me below and let me know if you have read any of these!
