April TBR

Currently, I am way ahead of schedule on my goal of reading 30 books this year! I am sitting at 15 books and donโ€™t have any plans to slow down soon! Here was my TBR for April.

โ€œWe Are Not Like Themโ€ by Christine Pride and Jo Piazza
โ€œComfort and Joyโ€ by Kristin Hannah
โ€œYou Got Anything Strongerโ€ by Gabrielle Union
โ€œTen Miles Past Normalโ€ by Frances Oโ€™Roark Dowell

These were the books on my TBR for April. I managed to read 2 of them but just couldnโ€™t seem to get out of my reading slump!
I was a couple of chapters into โ€œWe Are Not Like Themโ€ and it was good but I just couldnโ€™t handle the realness of it right now, so I returned it to the Library and will try it again later this year.

April TBR’s I Finished

The first book I read was โ€œComfort and Joyโ€. It wasnโ€™t a bad book but it also didnโ€™t keep my attention. I thought it was a good, sweet storyline and was shocked by the turn of events. But I wonโ€™t give any spoilers in case this is one on your list. For me, this was a 3/5 stars

Next, I readย  โ€œTen Miles Past Normalโ€, I picked this one up a few months ago at a library book sale. It was in the young adult section and sometimes I still like young adult books, so for $1 I figured โ€œwhy notโ€? This book ended up being VERY young adult and I will be sending it to my niece to read. It was a cute and innocent book but I did enjoy the story and it reminded me of being in high school. I gave this 4/5 stars

May TBR

โ€œOne Italian Summerโ€ by Rebecca Serle
โ€œFirst Love, Take Twoโ€ by Sajni Patel
โ€œLove On Leaseโ€ by Falon Ballard
โ€œThe Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugoโ€ by Taylor Jenkins Reid
“The Stand-In” by Lily Chu
“Crying in H Mart” by Michelle Zauner

As I am currently writing this I have already finished two of these books, โ€œOne Italian Summerโ€ and โ€œFirst Love, Take Twoโ€. I read and listened through both of these quickly and it has gotten me out of my reading rut!

โ€œOne Italian Summerโ€ by Rebecca Serle

When I picked this book to download on Audible I didnโ€™t realize I had already read books by this author. In fact I have now read three of her books! I previously read โ€œThe Dinner Listโ€ and โ€œIn Five Yearsโ€ but I would say โ€œOne Italian Summerโ€ is by far my favorite.
In listening to this book I was transported back to one of my favorite places, Italy. I was reminded of all the wonderful things about the country and why I loved it there so much!

Although the story starts out sad it turns into a beautiful story and discovery of self.
The main character, Katy, travels to Italy after her mother passes away and is quickly taken back in time to a time when her mom was still alive. Katy finds herself spending as much time with Carol (her mom) as possible and finding out some interesting stories along the way. She also discovers that her mom wasnโ€™t exactly who she thought she was. Read by Lauren Graham I instantly loved listening and was doing so at every chance I got! I loved how this book was written and narrated, 5/5 stars

โ€œFirst Love, Take Twoโ€ by Sajni Patel

OH MY GOODNESS! This was the book I needed to fully bring me back to reading! From the beginning, I was laughing and mad and feeling all the emotions! This book covers so much, from racism to mental health and how they are looked at in different cultures! I loved the banter between the main characters, Preeti and Daniel, it kept the book interesting. I was constantly waiting for them to rekindle their love and loved watching the tension build between them!

The ending was just the icing on the cake, I stayed up way too late because I couldnโ€™t put the book down, and I was not disappointed. I was cheering on Preeti and was so glad she showed how strong she could be, I was so invested that I couldnโ€™t fall asleep once I finished the book. My adrenalin was pumping like these were real people I knew and I was so proud! I 100% recommend this book and give it 5/5 stars!
