How To Start a Workout From Home
This year one of my goals is to Meditate, do Yoga, or Work out as needed, but at least 3x a week. As a stay-at-home mom, it can be hard to fit this in if you don’t plan on it! Before having Moose I used to go to the gym frequently. And I do miss it, but it is very hard to find the time right now with Melvin’s ever-changing schedule. I like to have a schedule and trying to schedule in gym time just wasn’t something that would work for us right now. So I work out from home. And I am going to share How to start a workout at home with some tips and tricks!
As you see my goal isn’t to do a hardcore workout every day. It is to meditate, do yoga OR work out at least 3x a week. Honestly, it will probably be more than that but this number will help me stay motivated because 3x a week isn’t a lot! I just want to make sure I am moving my body regularly. Here are some of my tips and tricks for how to start a workout from home as a mom!
How to start a workout from home
/1/ Go outside– I try to take Moose outside every day, and when I do this usually results in a walk for me and a bike ride for him. Which means I am moving my body and not even thinking about it. And MOM this is an advantage for you because most children sleep better when they get fresh air!
/2/ Short workouts- I will find workouts on youtube that are about 10-20 minutes long. This is a reasonable amount of time that Moose can keep himself busy. I can even fit this in before he wakes up in the morning, on a good day. But usually, Melvin and I will do these workouts when Moose is eating his afternoon snack. He snacks and then with toys or tries to follow along with us!
/3/ Wake up earlier- Now this is not one that I personally do, but I know a lot of moms do this. Do what works for you in your schedule. I like my sleep too much to set an alarm and wake up even earlier than I already do🤣 .
/4/ Schedule it in your planner- When I write things down I am more likely to do it. Click here to see the planner I use! I don’t always schedule my workouts but if I get to Thursday and notice I haven’t worked out all week, then I write it down in my planner. That only gives me 4 days to do my goal of 3 workouts. If I have worked out then I write that down too so I can keep track of it.

/5/ Make a goal- If I didn’t have this as a goal I wouldn’t do it!
/6/ Yoga- Some days I don’t want to do a full-blown sweaty workout and this is when yoga is nice. I tend to do more relaxed and calm yoga. This is also a great way to center yourself if you are having a stressful day. I usually do yoga in the morning, especially if I have done my chores and Moose is still asleep because I don’t have to worry about being sweaty and having to shower after. If I do it in the morning I also feel accomplished because I can say I got my workout done for the day!
/7/ Find a workout buddy- Mine is Melvin. We work out together pretty often and it helps us encourage each other and stay motivated.
/8/ Workout programs- If you don’t think you can do it alone or rely on a buddy, find a workout program that you like. We really enjoy apple fitness plus because it has so many different options!
/9/ Youtube- If you don’t want to pay for a program straight away, utilize youtube! There are so many great resources out there. A few of my favorite Youtubers are:
Bright and Salted – Yoga and Meditation
SarahBeth – Yoga and Pregnancy Yoga
Madfit – Workouts and Dance
Chloe Ting – Workouts and Workout Challenges

/10/ Invest in equipment- I don’t mean go out and buy an expensive workout bike or rack of 10 different weighted dumbbells. Just invest in a few items that will make your workouts better. All we use is dumbbells and yoga mats. We have 2 sets of dumbbells and 2 yoga mats so we each have our own. This is beneficial in that we can do more workouts with just these few items. I do also have some booty bands, but I haven’t used them much lately!
How I Stay Motivated When I Workout From Home
These are just a few things that worked for me and made it easier for me to work out. I love that Melvin and I are setting a healthy example for Moose. More and more he is trying to do the workouts with us which is so adorable! I also love getting these fabfitfun subscription boxes to keep me motivated!
