First Birthday Gift Guide
First Birthday Gifts
Moose’ Birthday falls close to Christmas, meaning we could end up with A LOT of useless toys and things for him! For his first birthday gifts and Christmas gifts, I made an Amazon list so we wouldn’t have this issue. On his list, I included everything from toys to clothes and diapers. (If you read my sustainability blog you know we use cloth diapers, however, we use disposables most nights)
Of course, it was his birthday so we wanted him to get toys but also wanted the gifts to be practical! I also thought about the fact that he wouldn’t be getting gifts again until this time next year. Unlike those who have birthdays not so close to Christmas. So, I put things on his list that I knew he would use as he got older. Here you will find the things we put on his list and that he got for his first birthday and Christmas!

Kitchen
/1/ A play kitchen and food– Moose already loved helping in the kitchen so I knew he would love this kitchen and food toy. It comes with a kid-size stove/oven combo with a sink, cabinets, a microwave, a wooden knife and spatula, and pans. The food we picked out came with veggies/fruit that come in halves and are held together by magnets. Moose loves to act like he’s cooking. He always puts his food and other toys in the cabinets and microwave spaces.
/2/ A kitchen helper– Because he loved (and still loves) helping and watching in the kitchen, we asked for this handy tool. It is probably one of the most used things we have because he just loves to be a part of the process and watch even if he’s not helping.
Toys for imagination play
/3/ Stuffed animals- We asked for 2 specific stuffed animals. A rabbit because he showed special attention to the rabbits in all of his books. And Kip from his favorite show, Word Party on Netflix.
/4/ Animal Magnets- These magnets are on our fridge. When we first got them he just liked moving them and then walking around with them. Now we are using them to help him learn animal names and sounds.
/5/ Stacking cups- We ended up with 2 different sets of these which worked out because we use one set for water play or for when he wants to take them out of the house. The other set stays in his playroom. They are great toys for developing many skills, from fine motor to organizing.
More toys perfect for first birthday gifts
/6/ Books- The teacher and book lover in me will ALWAYS ask for books for Moose. He loves books so it is a win-win.
/7/ Name Puzzle- You can get these customizable name puzzles in different color schemes which makes them even better. What a helpful toy to help him learn letters and his name!
/8/ Drum set (not on the list)- Two friends gifted Moose this. We didn’t have it on our list and I think they thought it would be a joke since it’s a loud toy. But the joke was on them because we love musical toys. This is one of Moose’s most used and played with toys!
/9/ Bubble Machine- Moose has loved bubbles for as long as I can remember. I am glad I put this on our list because it saves us from having to do the “hard work” of blowing the bubbles.🤣 It’s easy to use and we use it indoors and outdoors!
How we spent Moose’ first birthday
All of these items can be found on Amazon and are affordable! A few other things that Moose got for his birthday were a bike trailer, flashcards, blocks, and clothes!
Melvin and I gave him a few things but we took him to the Zoo for his main birthday gift. He loves animals and enjoyed walking around the Zoo and pointing at them! We picked him up a stuffed animal giraffe to help him remember his first birthday!
Growing up we want to make sure he gets to celebrate both his birthday and Christmas, I don’t want them to be combined to one moment. So we plan to do an experience for his birthday and gifts for Christmas. And yes I know it’s not all about the gifts, but this is how we will separate the two fun occasions in our family!
