Newborn Favorites

This is a list of my personal new parent, newborn must haves. As a new mom, we usually want all the gadgets and of course, we want what is best for our baby. I knew that I didn’t want to spend a lot of money and went about trying to find what was really necessary. Everyone has their personal preferences, and this list will include mine.

First things first, I suggest making a registry. We made two. As a military family, we live far away from a lot of our friends and family. I knew they would want to send us gifts for the baby, so I made sure my registries were accessible online. We went with Amazon and Target. For both of these registries, you can go to Google and search Amazon or Target baby registry. Select the first option and then click on create a registry. From there you can search and add baby items to your registries. (click here to start an Amazon registry) So, without further ado, lets get started.

New Born Must Haves

DocATot

I had heard a lot about the DockATot and wanted one. We put it on our registry but, luckily for us, we caught it on sale and picked it up ourselves. There are many options out there similar to the DockATot, but we were very happy that we did get this one. We used our DockATot daily! Babies sleep A LOT in the newborn stage. We kept our DockATot on our couch downstairs so we could easily put Moose down after being nursed or burped and so we can keep an eye on him. However, you should never let your baby sleep in a DockATot if you can’t physically see them because it is “possible” for them to suffocate on the sides.

Stroller

My next newborn must have is a great stroller! My husband is slightly above average in height, so we wanted a stroller with an adjustable handle. I also knew that I would eventually want more kids so why not look into a stroller suited for two. After lots of research, I found the perfect stroller for our family.

The Evenflo Pivot Expand Gold. We went with the gold option that includes a smart sensor on the car seat clip. This sensor connects to your car and phone letting you know if the baby is too hot, if you left your baby in the car when you got out, or if they come unbuckled, and a few other features. As a new mom, having this peace of mind was wonderful. Not necessary, but we appreciated the added safety feature.

Options

This stroller also comes in a cheaper option without the Sensorsafe. All in all, this stroller included everything you would need: the stroller frame, car seat, car seat base, and toddler seat/bassinet. This stroller also has a very sturdy, big basket. I couldn’t tell you how many times I used it to hold all our groceries and the cashier would be in shock with how much I had stored in it. This stroller can be configured into multiple different ways, and although our son has outgrown the car seat, this is still our go to stroller with the toddler seat option.

We also picked up the Evenflo Stroller Accessories Starter Kit. This includes a mosquito net, rain cover, cup holder and storage pouch organizer.

More New Born Must Haves

My other newborn must haves include a Boppy, bottle warmer, sterilizer, wipe warmer, a bottle drying rack and a good diaper bag. We used these items daily!

We were gifted 2 Boppy products. Since we had a two story house, we would keep our Boppy lounger upstairs and our DockATot downstairs. I also had a Boppy for breast feeding and this was VERY helpful. Being able to rest Moose on the Boppy as opposed to fully supporting him the whole time was a back saver. When my husband started bottle feeding Moose, he also used it to keep Moose in a similar position.

The bottle warmer and wipe warmer were wonderful to have and newborn must haves. Once I started pumping and my husband was able to give Moose a bottle, the warmer helped make the feeding transition for Moose seamless. Moose still likes his milk a little warm now at a year and a half. We liked our wipe warmer because Moose didn’t pee on us anymore while changing. This is probably due to the wipes not being shockingly cold on Moose’s bottom.

The sterilizer was also a must have for us. It is very important to sterilize bottles when babies are young. We would wash the bottles and put them in the sterilizer each night.

Diaper Bag

When choosing a diaper bag, it was important that it had room for everything and also could be worn by both my husband and I. We went with a grey bookbag. It was perfect and even though it didn’t get as much use after the first 5ish months of Moose being born, thanks covid, we loved this bag.

Find a bag that is going to suit you and your family. Ours had lots of pockets (2 insulated bottle pockets) and could fit everything we needed for the baby and me since I stopped carrying a purse. This bag also came with a changing pad which always came in clutch when we had to change Moose in the car or just out in public.

We still use this diaper bag when going on longer trips and we took it with us on our first family vacation back in July, to Maryland. It was perfect for the plane, holding all the extra snacks, and toys we brought along to entertain Moose! Be sure to check out those blog posts!

Final Must Haves

Our last Newborn must haves were the play mat and bouncer we were given. We loved this play mat and still use the piano part now. It is a mat that grows and changes with baby. Moose enjoyed his bouncer, he liked playing with the toys and looking around.

These were all our favorites and newborn must haves during our newborn stage with Moose. Be sure to browse the links within the post to find direct links to items.
