Top 5 Books of 2021

Reading is magical, it is an escape, it is rewarding... here are my top 5 books of 2021 so far...

Do you like to read? I love to read! Here I will be sharing my top 5 books this year, so far! As a mom, it is hard to find time to pick up a book. And honestly, I go through dry spells where I hardly read for a few weeks. Also, there are times where the complete opposite happens, where I am reading every chance I get. Sometimes other things get put to the side so that I can find time to read, but I find this necessary for my own sanity. Reading is an “escape”, a way to experience something without having to be there. I love imagining what the characters and scenes look like!

As you have probably already read in my previous posts, I am a part of a book club with some of my best friends. Our book club has held me accountable and pushed me to read books outside of my norm. Today’s post, however, is going to be about books that I have read on my own, to help me meet my goal of 24 books this year!

We Met in December by Rosie Curtis

Audible

I had originally chosen this book as our next book club book, but I started it and couldn’t wait to finish it. This whole book takes place in London, England, and the surrounding areas. “We Met in December” is about the two main characters who live in a house share with 3 other roommates. It follows Jess and Alex through their friendship, going on walks as Alex shows Jess around London, and they get to know each other. Neither of them grew up in London, however, Alex had been visiting with his dad for years.

This book is narrated by two (British) narrators one for each main character, this makes the audio easy to follow along. Their friendship blossoms and they share their feelings with the audience reading. so, you can probably guess what happens. This book has a lot of British terms and slang which was very warm and welcoming to me. Even as they describe the dismal, rainy days they were embarking on, this book made me think about and miss home.

I loved everything about this predictable romance and would honestly read it again, 5/5

Twice in a Blue Moon by Christina Lauren

Audible

This book was a fantastic read/listen! I picked this book because it was set (partly) in England and was a romance novel, which I can’t resist! It follows the characters Tate and Sam who meet while vacationing with their grandparents in London. They spend 2 weeks together sharing their deepest secrets, and then Sam disappears and Tates secrets are revealed to the world.

There are lots of twists and turns in this romance. As they reconnect unexpectedly years later, they are forced to work together, after a strong betrayal that caused them to go their separate ways years earlier.

This book was quite predictable, but I enjoyed that aspect of it!
I give this a 4.5/5

The Honey Don't List by Christina Lauren

Audible

I snagged this book right after I finished “Twice in a Blue Moon” because Christina Lauren are becoming two of my favorite authors. This book is also a romance and follows 2 young characters who work for a married couple in the home remodeling business. They are forced to work together as they are the couple’s secondhand man and woman, pretty much-glorified assistances. As they work together more, they inevitably and predictably, fall for each other. There is so much more to this story that it will keep you on the edge of your seat.

I listened to “The Honey Don’t List”, every chance I had; while going on walks with Moose, in the car, before falling asleep, EVERY chance I had! Christina Lauren are great writers and I LOVE their books. That’s right, these books are co-written by 2 ladies, Christina and Lauren. I can’t wait to dive into some more of their novels later this year!

I would also give this book a 4.5/5 just because it is another predictable one!

Sweet Talk by Cara Bastone

Audible Original

Another romance, I picked this book out in between finishing and starting 2 book club books. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book and loved that it had a narrator for each main character. This made it easier to listen to. “Sweet Talk” was predictable in some ways but I was still in shock at the end.

Elliot and Jessie have a fun “relationship” through text, however, Elliot has no idea who Jessie is as they ended up texting because of an accident misdial… mis-text. As they continue to talk, developing feelings for each other, Jessie is insistent that they don’t meet. I’m sure you’ll be just as shocked as I was to find out what happens. This was the second book in a series, so I plan to go back and read or listen to the first one.
4.5/5 all around, great story and great narrators!

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

Book

This novel was an interesting one and one in which I wouldn’t normally have chosen. Honestly, the title and cover were not what I was expecting this book to be. I picked this one up at the library and was determined to read and finish it as I had been listening to most of my books this year. The “Midnight Library” is about a girl in between life and death. The library offers her chances to go back to her life through regrets that she had. It was an interesting read, although it took me a while to finish it, I did enjoy it.

It made me realize how happy and thankful I am for the life I have. I am glad that I don’t dwell on past mistakes or decisions I have made. I live by the idea that everything happens for a reason and this book made me glad that I do.

4/5 for me with this one as I did find it to be a bit too long.

In Conclusion...

As you can tell, 4 out of the 5 books in my top five were listened to on Audible. You can sign up through this link and try Audible for free. As a busy mom, it is way easier to listen to books on Audible. Audible allows me to listen to books while doing other things. I love to hold a book and read, but sometimes that isn’t realistic, so audible came to my rescue many times!

However, I have quite a few books on my shelves ready to be read so I will be diving into these ones soon.
