Rome Sweet Roam

Rome

Day one in Rome Italy

ROMAAAAAA!!! Our Hotel in Rome, Italy was right around the corner from the train station. We had a 2 minute walk, It wasnโ€™t the nicest from the outside but the room was nice and it was next to a really good restaurant. We were hungry after this train ride and needed to book our ticket to Naples the next day. After freshening up we went to get our tickets, then to the closest restaurant. We had decided that sharing our food was the best way to enjoy a bit of everything. We ordered a pepperoni and basil pizza and penne with tomato sauce and basil.

After demolishing this we decided to look at the dessert menu. I wanted tiramisu but after looking at the menu I couldnโ€™t decide. There was a sampler platter so Melanie and I got that to share. The Sampler came with tiramisu, a white profiterole, milk chocolate profiterole, panna cotta and another desert similar to panna cotta. My favorite was the tiramisu and the milk chocolate profiterole. We called it a night after dinner and headed back to the hotel.

Day two in Rome, Italy

The next day we woke up early and got ready to take on Rome. We tried to figure out the bus system, but being in the touristy area everyone was offering us the open top bus tour which we did not want. We ended up just walking everywhere, clocking about 8-10 miles.

The Colosseum

First, we set out for the Colosseum. After a couple of miles walk through the โ€œnot so cleanโ€ streets of Rome we made it to the Colosseum. It was HUGE! I couldnโ€™t fathom how the ancient Romans were able to build this with no equipment or machines. Melanie and I just chose to walk around the outside of the Colosseum taking it in.

The lines to get in were quite long and we were annoyed by all the people trying to sell us tickets into the Colosseum so we went to get a pizza. We picked up our pizza, a pastry to share and some water then went to find a place for some good pictures. We found a great spot and ended up sitting next to some people who were nice enough to take our pictures, we were having luck with this!

Trevi Fountain, Rome, Italy

Next stop, was the Trevi Fountain. Another mile or so later we were there. It was very pretty and reminded me of my childhood favorite movies, The Lizzie McGuire Movie and When in Rome. We thought this would be the perfect place for Gelato! We got our Gelato and quickly moved to the fountain to get some โ€œInstagramโ€ pictures. Once again we found some very nice tourists to take our pictures, in return, we took many photos of others as well. We were able to sit down right by the fountain and enjoy the view while we enjoyed our Gelato.

Finally, we were ready for our last stop, The Spanish steps. The walk towards the Spanish steps quickly turned from the dirty streets to beautiful Spanish-inspired streets. It felt like I was back in Spain again, it was bizarre to me how it changed so quickly, this part of our walk was much more pleasant.

The Spanish Steps

We stumbled upon the Spanish steps at the Piazza di Spagna and quickly noted we would not be walking up them. There was a fountain at the bottom so, yep, we took more pictures. We sat on the steps in the shade to take a break from all the walking, looking up directions to head back to the hotel. Of course the directions let us know that we would actually have to walk up the steps. We realized once we got to the top that it wasn’t that bad, and only about 138 steps. We got some pictures at the top then went to retrieve our luggage and head to our next destination.

This part of the walk was the roughest as there were some very steep hills, but it was pretty. We got our luggage and headed to the train station in hopes of getting an earlier ticket to our next destination. The lady at the train station was VERY helpful and we were able to get an earlier train! Stay tuned to find out where we explored next.
