Books on deck

One of my goals this year is to read more. I have been trying to pick a book from my bookshelf before heading to sleep every night. Over the past couple of months I have read a few books. A few of which I am going to do a mini review of sorts. So stick around and see what I have on my bookshelf!

The first book I conquered was Bloom by Estee Lalonde. I had been reading this book on and off all through out 2017 and finally finished it in early November. It is a biography about the author, Estee. She is a YouTube sensation who my best friend loves to watch. Melanie, my best friend, actually sent me the book. She thought after reading it herself I would enjoy it as well. And I did. It did take me a long time to read it but only because I was busy. The book was an easy read and easy to get back into after the times I had neglected it due to being busy.

Biographies are one of my favorite genres and this one didn’t disappoint. I loved learning about her life in London, and how she got there. She made me feel like I could handle my stress and anxiety as she has done so. I am not alone in this struggle. So if you want an easy and enjoyable read this is the book for you.

The next two books I pulled off my bookshelf, I read pretty quickly! I read milk and honey and the sun and her flowers by Rupi Kaur. Milk and honey I read in 4 hours. These are books full of poems. They were easy to read and drew me in straight away. The sun and her flowers took me a little longer to read as I didn’t have as much free time. But I was able to read it over the period of a few night before drifting off to sleep.

Both were enjoyable books that I would read again, I don’t do that often but I know I could reflect back on some of the poems when needed. Once again I would recommend these books, specifically to women who just want an easy read. One of my friends who has three kids even found time to read through milk and honey in just a couple of days. If you only want to pick up one of these wonderful books by Rupi Kaur I would say go with the first one milk and honey.

A few other books I read last year (on kindle) were The Sun is Also a Star and Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon, and Love and Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch.

I really enjoyed Nicola Yoons writing style. These two books are geared towards young adults, a “genre” I enjoy. The sun is also a star, drew me in with the different cultures coming together and sharing the differences. I read Everything, Everything because I saw it was becoming a movie and by the same author. It was an interesting read that kept me hooked with its love story. I saw the movie afterwards and although it was not as good, I thought they did a good job with it and I would watch it again.

Love and gelato was my favorite, it took me back to high school, when I was living in Italy. I read this book right after my trip to Italy last summer and so it was cool to recognize some of the places the book talked about. It was a romantic, easy read that I did not want to finish. Luckily she has a 2nd book coming out this summer! I look forward to reading the next book, Love and Luck.
