My Top 5 Book Apps

/1/ Audible

Some people don’t believe that listening to a book counts as reading but I don’t feel that way! It is no secret that I listen to a lot of my books, making this my favorite of the book apps! As a busy toddler mom, this is the easiest way to get a lot of books read! I listen while I am in the car most of the time! I get bored with the radio and much prefer listening to books. In fact, most of my drive from Florida to Texas was spent listening to Audible. I enjoyed “Maybe Someday” by Colleen Hoover!

This app is easy to use and for the price, it is usually cheaper than buying a book at the store. You can also pause your subscription once a year for up to 3 months. I do this because I will get backed up with credits but don’t want to cancel the service altogether! You also have access to free audible originals as well as podcasts, along with other benefits.

/2/ Goodreads

I use this book app to keep track of the books I am reading all in one place, you can connect it to other reading apps such as kindle and amazon. I have done this to help me share the books I am reading. Goodreads is also a great way to connect with other readers and friends who share common interests. You can post your reviews for others to see and rate the books you have read. Before choosing a book I often check my friends on Goodreads for reviews as they may have read the same books. You can find my Goodreads here!

/3/Epic

I am going to be honest, I haven’t used this one in a few years. BUT, when I was teaching this was one of my favorite apps. I required my kids to read (or be read to) for a set amount of time a week. More than once I got the excuse of the student not having books… but that is a tale for another time. I would simply suggest that the parent get the Epic app, as this app provides an endless amount of books for free! If you decide you really like it you can get the unlimited plan for about $80 a year!

/4/Kindle

I have had the kindle app for a LONG time and I enjoy using it! Like Audible you have lots of benefits and access to free books. I did not start with a Kindle E-reader, I just had the app on my phone and tablet. Now, I do use a Kindle Paperwhite that I got as a gift for mothers day. The app allows you to store (and read) multiple books in one place. You can also sample books before you buy them, this is helpful because you may be on the fence about a book and this will help you decide one way or the other. *There have been some recent changes for Android phone users*

/5/Libby by Overdrive

This app is new to me. A friend suggested it when I told them I had received the kindle paperwhite for mothers day. If you have a library card or like in my case use your military base library, you can connect and use this app to get books for completely free. It was super easy to get logged into the app, you can use your library card credentials, or follow the steps with your email and pin for the military library access. I haven’t used this one much but have already been able to borrow and have a book sent to my kindle library. It is my understanding that you can rent the book for up to 3 weeks and they will notify you to let you know when your rental is up. So unlike Audible and Kindle, these books are not yours to keep. That doesn’t bother me, as it is just like renting a physical copy at the library.
